SA Youth Week

SA Youth Week (SAYW) will be held from 13-22 April 2018, and is the largest annual event on the South Australian youth calendar.

SAYW showcases young peoples’ talents, contributions and achievements; promotes a positive image of young people; acknowledges the common interests of young people, as well as their diverse backgrounds and circumstances; and enables young people to express their ideas.

Although the name has changed from National Youth Week, the benefits and opportunities to highlight young people’s talents, contributions and achievements remain the same.

The theme for SAYW 2018 is ‘Your Future – Your Way’.

This theme will highlight young people’s role in shaping their lives and, in doing so, shaping directions for South Australia. It will emphasise the value of young people’s ideas, skills and resilience in local communities, and champion the benefits that their wide variety of unique backgrounds, interests, identities and perspectives can bring to us all.

‘Your Future – Your Way’ will inspire young people to achieve their goals in ways that suit their unique circumstances and needs, and highlight the myriad of significant contributions they can and do make to broad and complex social issues. The emphasis on taking action their way aligns with the SA Youth Week’s focus on young people being heavily involved in events.

Grants are now open

Local councils, State Government agencies and non-government organisations that work directly with young people aged 12-25 years are encouraged to apply for grants of $1,500 or $3,000 to fund SAYW 2018 events and activities.

An additional $5,000 is also available for an eligible organisation to host the official state launch.

Organisations are encouraged to talk to young people in their local community about how they would like to see SAYW celebrated.

In 2018, we want the creators and collaborators, the innovators and idealists, the experts and the entertainers. We want young people with a passion for engaging with communities and a zest for life to plan, organise and deliver as many events as possible. We want to know all about you - your ideas for today, your hopes for the future and the many ways you enrich South Australia.

It’s your week – let’s celebrate it your way.

Grants close 5pm, Friday 22 September 2017.
